IE 8 How Can You Correct Your Own Writing for the IELTS Writing Section
How to correct my writing and get feedback?
- Best option would be finding natvie english speakers and language partners
- Make a checklist for yourself that you follow everytime
- Organize it by the descriptor! (cf.IELTS Writing descriptor, IELTS Speaking descriptor)
- ex. Summary, overall trend, what happens to the numbers, highest number, lowest number, increases and decreases, Agreement and Disagreement
- Make sure you address everything in the questions.
- Are you repeating any information or words? you should not being redundant not being flowery. You should paraphrase the words and try to think of many different ways to say that.
- Coherence and Cohesion. Organization and linking words. Do you have good paragraphs?
- Circle all linking words. Make sure you have all transition phrase or linking words in every sentence so that they flow together as a full paragraph.
- Does every sentence connect to the topic? Do your ideas make sense together logically?
- Practice speaking with same vocab words! That is gonna translate into your writing skills.
- Make mp3 recording of yourself speaking and go back through with listen with this check list in front of you.
- Grammar - look for a variety of structure. Underline complex sentence. (sentence with dependent clause like which, that ...) Extend your idea and give more information about what you said.
- Make the list of the most common errors! Circle present simple and past simple.
- If you use verb structure that you are not sure about then you should highlight that part and go online to ask that to someone (ex. grammar girl)
